Medium pretty perfect for 5'8" teenager; loves the subtle branding
My teenager loves this sweatshirt; she has worn it (in the gray color) every fall and winter school day for a year. At 5' 8" and around 168 pounds the Medium was perfect. Wore it over a long sleeve waffle knit shirt and was comfortable walking between buildings on campus even in snow and temps below 32°; only needed to add a hat and gloves.
The fit of the Medium was good, but even though it's "loose fit" it somehow seems just a tad slim around the very upper torso (if you measured around under the armpits), or maybe it shrank with repeated washing. After a year the rainproof (coating?) seems to have mostly worn off, but the trade-off is that the fabric now feels softer on the outside.
Now approaching 5' 9"+ and maybe 175 pounds, she's ready for a Large (so it is easier to pull on and continues to fits more comfortably over one layer, and she can benefit from having more width around the torso). We are going to try the Large Tall as she seems long in the torso, and especially because the Tall says the sleeves are 2" longer. [But Carhartt, PLEASE NOTE: 2" longer than WHAT? Nowhere does it say what the sleeve length actually is.]
Her having worn the Medium all year I can tell the sleeves are *just* long enough; she will appreciate the extra 2" of sleeve length of the Tall.
She LOVES this sweatshirt and I am so grateful it is still available in the same colors, and especially with only the subtle Carhartt logo.
Please keep this in stock next year too-and do not be tempted to add more logos! I've noticed that her and her classmates prefer hoodies that do NOT scream their brand name on the front and back. Having the small logo tag on the pouch pocket is perfect.

The material is pretty good, fit is larger than I expected, I'll have to experiment with sizes or go to a brick and mortar location to try on different sizes to lock in the actual size going forward.
The main issue I had with it was the so-called "hidden security pocket" which was advertised as keeping my phone or wallet secure.
I'm not sure what phones you guys are using to test it out, but it did not fit the Google Pixel 8 at all. Also, it would be even better if you had an option where that pocket was on the left side so people don't have to reach around to grab their phones.

They don't make them like they used to.
Comparing my black rain defender old to new.
I have two old ones both bought same year. (2021)
Old rain defender heavyweight hoodie Feels heavy duty, good quality. Imported from Vietnam Material blend is Shell 75% Cotton, 25% polyester, & hood lining 100% cotton
New rain defender (2024) heavyweight hoodie feels cheap like Gildan hoodie cheap, not loose fitting like old ones blend is Shell 55% Cotton, 45% Polyester, and hood lineing 60% Cotton 40% polyester. Imported from Mexico.

Horrible pilling after 1 wash
Purchased for my son and after 1 wash it pilled horribly. Reached out to carhartt with my concerns but was told they wouldn't do anything because pilling is not considered a defect and that I should try returning it to the retailer I purchased from (which they wouldn't guarantee would accept the return). Dense pilling after 1 wash on that fabric is certainly a defect of fabric- where is your quality control carhartt?!

Great colour almost perfectly satisfied
I’ve had the zipup version for work and it is absolutely amazing. I got the tidal colour for home and the heavyweight rain defender hoodies are the thickest hoodies you can buy. It’s like buying a hoodie in the 90’s before everyone cheaped out and preferred minimal effort while raising the prices. I’m 5’10 170 lbs and got the medium. Didn’t expect the pocket to be so wide since the midweight version is skinnier which i think looks better but big deal. Also the hood is much smaller on this tidal model for some reason

Deceptive colors
Color is very deceptive in person. The bright blue color looks nothing like the photo, which i know screen color can alter things but iv never gotten one this badly different. Very disappointed as i really loved that color. Otherwise its a good hoodie.

Work hoodie!
I do deliveries and am constantly in and out of the car, outside and it's January in NY wore it when it was in the 20's kept me warm for 12 hours, no problem! I bought a color I'm not thrilled with because it was on sale and overall am thrilled with the quality! I'm not easily impressed and this company has come through in quality!
