Good pants but NOT true to size
Very nice pants, less rugged than canvas. However sizing is very inconsistent. Bought coffee in 34" waist and fit well. Then bought black 34", and they were actually 32"or smaller - couldn't even zip them up. Returned them. Tried the cathart gold and they are about 33", which I can wear but uncomfortable. Very poor quality control. I like everything else about the pants but recommend you order a size (2") larger to start.

WHY THEY WORK FOR ME
They are great casual pants. I can use them in my shop or for social occasions. Like most of us I have a smart phone. When I wear regular Levis my phone ends up in my jeans pocket or a shirt pocket. It is hard to access my phone from my jeans pocket. Having the phone in my shirt pocket means one side of my shirt sags. My Carhartt's have a side pocket most likely intended for a foldable ruler. It is ideal for a smart phone. That and the good fit and comfort made me a devoted Carhartt shopper.

Overall, I love Carhart's. Quality material and design.
Yes, if you wash them, they will shrink. But if you dry them with any amount of heat they will shrink a lot more! Up to 4" in length, and approx. 1 to 1-1/2" in the waist.
Bought 3 Pair. I tried them on in store at the time of purchase and bought 34 waist and 34 length. Wife bought me an additional pair 3 months later. Decided to save two of the pairs for winter, and only wear two pair for a trial.
Comparison: Levi 550 - 33 waist, 36 length fits me great after washing and drying.
6 months later.. could hardly wear the pants, they had shrunk so much. Felt like a 32 waist and 32 length from Levi's
Solution: Go two inches larger in waist and 1 - 2" longer in length. (if possible, I'm 6' 2" and all legs) And don't use heat to dry them. If you do use heat, go 3" wider waist and 4" longer in length from what you would purchase from Levi... if possible.
Carhart: 35 waist, 36 length fits me good. And I Air Dry them, no heat.
I took pictures of the new pair (unwashed and undried) and the two pair (washed and dried with heat for 6 months) that I had purchased earlier and dried as normal with heat in the dryer, as well as taking the pants in, and showed them to the store manager. (all the same size) No one had ever shown them that before. They were blown away at the shrinkage.
All that said, the pants are great, I won't be going back to Levi's, they simply don't hold up as well as Carhart's, and I love the feel of the pants.
I did rewash the pants, stretched them out each time, and let them air dry, and their getting better in length but still tight in the waist. Hopefully that helps.

Inconsistent sizing
Everything has always been great. Bibs, jackets, shirts, you name it, but I have one major complaint about carhartt’s work pants. I wear a 34x32, and im starting to believe these pants are inconsistent with their actual size. I ordered two pairs of these and how does one pant come out about 2 inches longer and wider than the other? Yes, I can brush it off and wear them like always, return them, exchange them, but that’s not the point. All my 34x32 pants fit different, it makes no sense. The quality is amazing obviously but I know for a fact I’m not the only one who’s had this issue. This needs to get resolved.

Saved my lower body
These pants are awesome and they protect your lower body extremely well. I got two motorcycle accident this past Saturday and the outer layer was torn to shreds, but the inner layer had scratches but did not let the concrete come through and give me road rash on my lower extremity. These pants are awesome and they did say myself a lot more pain and headache than what I'm having to go through now, if you want protection by these. I can't afford pictures if they allow me.

Tapper/slim/husky design
As much as I love the quality in Carhartt pants, the waist is incredibly tight and unforgiving when I sit down. I’d love to see sort of a husky design where the waist is wider and the legs are a bit more slim. Because when I buy a bigger size of pants they are massively foolish looking. Putting more of your flex materials in the waist would be great.
I love the square part (for my knife) on the pocket of my new green rip stop cargos…
Thanks

bring back the 6-inch zipper
Kudos to the genius in corporate who figured out that Carhartt could save 5 cents per unit if they used a 5-inch zipper instead of the previous standard 6-inch zipper which must amount to $100,000's overall? I'm reminded of this every time I go to the bathroom and/or each time I put these on or take them off. You've ruined a perfectly good pair of pants that I'm sure each and everyone who has purchased a pair would have gladly paid the difference for a longer zipper.
I wish I'd read all the reviews...
